Day 43 – John Turns 4, Yellow Sands to Morgan Bay

Written by Greg on April 3rd, 2011

Big mama reporting: John opened his presents at Yellow Sands campsite, he was very excited about the tractor we all gave him, but especially thrilled with his chips, sucker, chappies and candy floss Dani and Luke had given him. Dani and Luke had also made lovely cards for John which they read to him.

We had a great ride around then down to the lagoon to find sand prawn, mud prawn and the odd crab, which created lots of shrills of excitement. It is a beautiful beach here at Yellow Sands, shallow pools, wide beach and gentle rolling waves. Back to the camp site to do the last bit of pack up, and onto Cintsa again to have our birthday party at Michaela’s Restaurant, up the venicular! What a view from the top.

There was a buffet menu at the restaurant , so we put on our party hats (and kids even had party sunglasses) and dished up yummy lunch. John said his favourite was the “cob” and spinach followed by a bowl of ice cream, custard and chocolate mousse, which also served as his birthday cake. We all sang “happy birthday” and then got our party packs!

Only 67 kms on we arrived at Morgan Bay Caravan Park, location wise we couldn’t do better. We’ve put up the tent with an exceptional view of the Lagoon and sea. At sunset we went for a quick walk to the beach, confirming that this is yet another fantastic beach we will explore. Ant, Kris this is another great camping recommendation, thanks!

John (and the rest of us) has had a happy ,happy day and thanks for all the messages and calls.

Day 42 – Yellow Sands and Cintsa

Written by Greg on April 2nd, 2011

Grey and gloomy this morning when we woke up at the Yellow Sands resort. Had breakfast in the caravan and then took a drive to Cintsa East. Spent a bit of time flying the kite on the beach and then went to Malcolm’s recommendation: Michaela’s Restaurant, but it was closed for a wedding function. Might go there tomorrow for John’s birthday. Ended up at Cintsa West for lunch and saw them taking pictures of the bride close by.

After lunch we sent back to the campsite and took a walk down to the beach and the lagoon. Played a bit of ball and Dani found a cowry. Staying an extra night here – so great.

Day 41 – Kayser’s Beach to Yellow Sands

Written by Greg on April 1st, 2011

Last day at Kayser’s today, so packed all the kit back into the caravan and did some tidying up. Always sad to leave this place. Kids did their work in the morning and then we all got on the bikes and did a last little tour around Kayser’s and past Frikkie’s (the local shop, now called the Coelacanth Store) for ice creams.

Left in the afternoon and drove north past East London to Yellow Sands which is a great campsite at the mouth of the Kwelera River. It was threatening to rain, so everyone slept in the caravan and once we were snug in bed the rain came down.

Got home had a bath then Maria, Charles and the twins came and we packed wraps for supper at the beach. Had hot cross buns as well. Came home, said goodbye and went to bed.

Luke reporting: Woke up and read some of my book “Danny, the champion of the world”. Had cereal for breakfast. Then I went to Frikkies to buy John a present for his birthday and wrapped it up. We went to the Mediterranean and used the skimmer ball in the sea. I went to go look for pumpkin shells with Daniela and we found one smaller than a mielie seed. We came back to the Tree House and had lunch (roast chicken).

We went to fish with our rods (using swimming crab as bait). The boys boogy boarded and Daniela went to catch Bullies. We caught nothing and came back when it looked like it was going to rain. Had a great bath, did the blog, read and went to bed.

Day 38 – Kayser’s Beach

Written by Greg on March 29th, 2011

Nads reporting: There are added benefits of having Gogo with us, I get a sleep in and the kids get Tastee Wheat for breakfast. So once everyone had eaten, got dressed and faffed a bit at the Tree House, it was time for Greg to take the kids to the beach and Mom and I went into East London.

Mom and I went to see Granny Toich, who will be 92 in July. Although it is sad that she doesn’t know who we are and not able to converse with us, we hope that in some way she knows she is loved. We met Margie, Maria and Jessie there for a cup of tea.

Did the necessary food shop before dropping Mom at the airport. Thank you for joining us for a few days, we all loved being with you again 🙂 A thick mist had pulled in on my way back to Kaysers and kids were bathed and fed by the time I got home.

Day 37 – Kayser’s Beach

Monica/Gogo reporting: I was missing these happy campers so much, I decided to find them and spend a couple of days with them. So yesterday, Sunday I arrived in East London, and they fetched me from the airport. How wonderful to see them all after so long! And how well and happy they are all looking! Today at Kayser’s was busy , and at the same time relaxing.  We did some house and garden tidying at the Tree House, and they all had loads of fun cutting and cleaning some trees.

After a sudden and unusual hailstorm the sun came out and the rest of the afternoon was beautiful. We all went to Baseball Beach where lots of effort was put into fishing, and the day ended in the most wonderful way with a magnificent sunset. Tomorrow I leave and am very satisfied to see just how much this endless summer trip is being appreciated by all of them. So travel safely, happy campers and thank you for these last couple of days with you.

We went to do a quick shop then went to fetch Gogo at the airport.

Came back and did roasted chicken for lunch, then went fishing at baseball beach. Michael tried to reel a fish in, but it got away. Came home with bad luck, then we washed our rods, had two minute noodles for supper and went to bed on the top bunk.

First we saw flightless dung beetles, warthog, shongolo, then a herd of 50 elephants and one walked right past us the willy was huge. Drove more until we saw something very lucky ………………it was three LIONS lying watching some kudu. Then carried on out the park to PE. At the camp site and we played foot-foot (because we didn`t  have golf clubs on the putt- putt course). We had some pasta for lunch.
